My oldest son picked up his cap and gown yesterday. He says graduation isn't a big deal, but he seemed pretty excited to put on his long purple robe, adjust the mortarboard on his head, and pose for pictures with his friends.

I knew the perfect spot to capture photos of the three amigos in their regalia! There is an old abandoned railway bridge in downtown Snoqualmie that would be a magical setting for the pictures.

We inched our way out along rotting wood to reach the water's edge as Eli hummed the graduation song.  For a moment, in the quiet of that broken-down bridge nestled in the trees, it felt like THIS  was the moment that kids were graduating.  It was fitting, the hum of the familiar tune as the kids thoughtfully, strategically and carefully hopped over broken railroad ties, dodged low hanging tree limbs, and tried not to think about what would happen if they fell as they made their way to the end of this broken road.  I stood to the side and watched them reach the end.

There were smiles, there was fear, a sense of adventure, and that moment of solidarity.  They did this together.  They became friends as freshmen, they worked through all that life as high schoolers throws at them, and figured out how to get to the end of this season in the time of a global pandemic.

They may not have a fancy ceremony but they had this moment.
And I got some great photos!
