When we bought the Tesla a few years ago we were excited to have a little car with some fancy technology it was kind of a bonus that we would save money on gas.  Matt was commuting about 60 miles each day (prior to covid lockdowns) so there was potential for significant savings.

We had no idea, and would never have imagined, just how much we would benefit from the EV.  Thankfully, gas here in NC isn't anywhere near the price that it is in parts of California and Seattle, but it is still expensive.

Since Matt can work from home a few days per week and I only work a few days a month subbing, we have been able to almost exclusively drive the Tesla.  I try to run errands or work on days that he works from home and if we are going anywhere we take the car.

Gas prices were so high out in Washington that Eli quit his job as an event server at the winery/golf course in order to take a job making sandwiches closer to where he lives.  The 1.5 hour commute route trip was getting too expensive to make it worth the job.

I can only imagine how difficult these gas prices are for people who don't have options to work from home, drive gas-guzzling vehicles, or simply are barely making ends meet when gas was a "normal" price.

As we head into summer, I have finally accepted that airfare is just too darn expensive to go anywhere far for vacation. I am now on a quest to find somewhere slightly less humid than the Charlotte area to spend some time this summer and getting there will definitely be via the Tesla.

It adds a bit of time to a long drive, but nothing that can't be planned for or too annoying.  Every four hours of a drive in the Highlander takes about 4:45 in the Tesla.  Not a bad sacrifice for the savings and basically the only way we will get to adventure this summer.

So, I begin my vacation search with the Tesla super-charger network map.  If we are going to go anywhere it needs to be along a super charger route.

Hopefully, I'll find somewhere worth heading to.  I simply cannot be stuck here all summer.
